West Bengal suspends 4 officers over alleged irregularities in revision of electoral rolls; no FIR filed

The West Bengal Government has suspended 4 officers and initiated departmental proceedings in opposition to them for alleged irregularities within the revision of electoral rolls, however has not lodged any FIRs, thereby partially complying with the Directives of the Election Commission (EC).

“While the State Government has acted on the suspension directive and initiated departmental proceedings, it has so far not registered any FIRs against the accused,” an official on the State Secretariat stated.

He stated the suspended officers comprise two Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and two Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) from South 24 Parganas and Purba Midnapore districts. The suspensions comply with allegations of irregularities within the voter rolls of the Baruipur East and Moyna Assembly constituencies.

EC sources stated the officers in query — Debottam Dutta Chowdhury (ERO) and Tathagata Mandal (AERO) from Baruipur East, and Biplab Sarkar (ERO) and Sudipta Das (AERO) from Moyna — are accused of great procedural violations, together with sharing login credentials and breaching knowledge safety protocols throughout the electoral roll revision course of.
