Congress protests over situation of NH 66 in Mangaluru

Members of the Dakshina Kannada District Congress unit held an illustration and carried out a mock funeral procession protesting the pathetic situation of Kochi-Panvel National Highway 66 between Baikampady and Nanthoor within the metropolis on Friday, September 22.

Speaking on the event, district Congress president Ok. Harish Kumar termed National Highways Authority of India’s (NHAI) declare that funds weren’t obtainable for freeway maintenance after the closure of the toll plaza at NITK-Surathkal as garbage. The NHAI ought to have maintained the freeway in a superb situation, he stated.

Ivan D’Souza, MLC, famous that although the Central authorities had launched ample funds for the maintenance of the freeway, the NHAI failed to keep up it in good situation. The apathy has resulted within the deaths of harmless folks, he stated.

Later, the protesting members took out a mock funeral procession from Nanthoor Junction to NHAI’s Project Office positioned close by and tried to put siege to the workplace. When the police prevented them, they threw the effigy contained in the workplace compound.

Congress chief Mithun Rai alleged that folks’s representatives and the NHAI have been straight chargeable for the deaths on the freeway on account of potholes and craters. Demanding ₹1 crore compensation to the households of victims, he stated the Congress would proceed to carry protests until the freeway was restored.

Another chief, B. Padmaraj Poojary, stated that whereas the BJP was silent on improvement, it was energetic in dividing folks on communal grounds. MLAs and the MP didn’t even have the courtesy to go to the sufferer’s household and console the members, he stated.
