Rupee falls 12 paise to shut at 88.14 in opposition to U.S. greenback

The rupee fell 12 paise to shut at 88.14 (provisional) in opposition to the U.S. greenback on Thursday (September 4, 2025) amid sustained international fund outflows and a stronger dollar.

However, constructive sentiment within the home fairness markets — which had been buoyed by the GST fee revision — and a drop in worldwide crude oil costs prevented sharper losses within the native unit, in accordance with foreign exchange merchants.

At the interbank international trade, the rupee opened at 88.09 in opposition to the U.S. greenback and traded within the vary of 87.85-88.19 earlier than settling at 88.14 (provisional), down 12 paise from its earlier shut.

The rupee recovered 13 paise from its all-time low stage to settle at 88.02 in opposition to the U.S. greenback on Wednesday (September 3, 2025).

“The rupee fell after rising within the morning as equities had been unable to maintain their positive aspects whereas the Reserve Bank of India bought {dollars} on the larger finish and FPIs continued to be greenback patrons and fairness sellers,” Anil Kumar Bhansali, Head of Treasury and Executive Director, Finrex Treasury Advisors LLP, stated.

“U.S. tariff considerations, together with capital outflows, have been always weighing on sentiments of the rupee, which has not been capable of present any positive aspects besides sporadically. The revisions to GST… led to a marginal enchancment early within the morning,” he stated.

Mr. Bhansali stated the native unit is predicted to commerce within the vary of 87.80 to 88.50.

Meanwhile, the greenback index, which gauges the dollar’s energy in opposition to a basket of six currencies, was up 0.08% to 98.21.

Brent crude, the worldwide oil benchmark, was buying and selling 1.07% decrease at $66.88 per barrel in futures commerce.

On the home fairness market entrance, Sensex rose 150.30 factors to settle at 80,718.01, whereas Nifty was up 19.25 factors to 24,734.30.
