September rains hit tougher, farmers to get support earlier than Diwali: Maharashtra Agriculture Minister

Maharashtra Agriculture Minister Dattatray Bharne on Wednesday (September 24, 2025) stated the extreme rainfall in September inflicted larger injury than earlier downpours, and warranted that the affected farmers will get monetary support earlier than Diwali.

Talking to reporters, Mr. Bharne additionally stated there was nothing mistaken with the demand for declaring a “wet drought”, however Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and his deputies will take a name on it.

The Agriculture Minister stated the injury because of rainfall was extra within the area’s Nanded district.

“The rain in September has caused more losses than in the previous period. The loss in Marathwada is more in Nanded. But the crop loss survey is underway on a war footing with the help of the revenue and agriculture departments,” he stated.

Notably, Maharashtra Minister Gulabrao Patil on Tuesday (September 23) stated the State Government ought to declare a “wet drought” in Jalgaon district and components of Marathwada, which have been severely affected by heavy rains and flooding.

Mr. Bharne stated, “There is nothing wrong with the demand because farmers are in trouble today. But the chief minister and both the deputy CMs will think about it, considering the central government’s criteria for it. But now, helping farmers as soon as possible is our priority.”

The switch of monetary help to the accounts of farmers has began, the Minister stated.

“For areas where losses occurred before July and the loss surveys are completed, the government has started giving aid to farmers directly into their bank accounts. The state has started depositing aid out of the ₹2,215 crore (as announced by the Government),” he stated.

But the injury because of the rains is extra within the present month. Around 30 lakh hectares of land have been affected because of rainfall this month. The quantity of support for damages in September might be greater than the earlier losses, Mr. Bharne stated.

“The crop loss surveys will be completed soon, and the amount will be deposited into the farmers’ accounts before Diwali,” he added.

Mr. Bharne additionally stated that banks might be given directions to cease mortgage restoration within the areas affected by rain-related injury.

“The loan recovery in the areas where losses occurred should stop for now. The Government will initiate steps and the necessary instructions will be given to the banks concerned,” he stated.
