Despite rains, Tamil Nadu ushers in Deepavali with normal fervour

Deepavali was celebrated with normal fervour throughout Tamil Nadu, regardless of heavy rainfall, on Monday (October 20, 2025).

People awoke early, wore new apparel and burst crackers to mark the Festival of Lights. The Tamil Nadu Government, citing a Supreme Court judgement of 2018, has stated folks might burst firecrackers for 2 hours — between 6 a.m. and seven a.m. and from 7 p.m. to eight p.m.

With rains enjoying spoilsport, persons are compelled to burst crackers in breaks between spells of rains.

The Government additionally stated bursting of firecrackers have to be averted in ‘silence areas’, together with these housing hospitals. Also, it needs to be averted close to huts and different locations which will simply catch hearth.
