Mr. Trump introduced the upper tariffs in a Truth Social publish on Saturday, referencing an advert aired by the federal government of the Canadian province of Ontario, that includes a video of late President Ronald Reagan, a Republican icon, saying that tariffs trigger commerce wars and financial catastrophe.
Ontario’s Premier Doug Ford mentioned he would pull the advert after the weekend, and it ran Friday night time throughout the first recreation of the World Series.
“Their Advertisement was to be taken down, IMMEDIATELY, however they let it run final night time throughout the World Series, understanding that it was a FRAUD,” Trump mentioned in a publish on his Truth Social platform as he flew aboard Air Force One to Malaysia.
“Because of their critical misrepresentation of the information, and hostile act, I’m rising the Tariff on Canada by 10% over and above what they’re paying now.”
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney mentioned on Friday that Canada stood able to resume commerce talks with the United States.
The U.S. Commerce Department, the White House and Carney’s workplace didn’t instantly reply to requests for remark.
