The bypolls for 12 Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) wards will likely be held on November 30, with outcomes to be introduced on December 3, the Delhi State Election Commission mentioned on Tuesday.

According to the fee, nominations open on November 3, with November 10 being the final date for submitting papers. The scrutiny of nominations will happen on November 12, and withdrawals could be made till November 15. Polling will likely be carried out from 7.30 a.m. to five.30 p.m. with none break.

The bypolls will likely be held in Mundka, Shalimar Bagh-B, Ashok Vihar, Chandni Chowk, Chandni Mahal, Dwarka-B, Dichaon Kalan, Naraina, Sangam Vihar-A, Dakshin Puri, Greater Kailash, and Vinod Nagar wards.

Eleven of the 12 seats fell vacant after sitting councillors from the BJP and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) contested and received seats within the Delhi Assembly ballot held in February, together with Shalimar Bagh-B, which was earlier represented by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.

BJP councillor Kamaljeet Sehrawat vacated the Dwarka-B seat following her victory from the West Delhi Lok Sabha constituency.

‘Development affected’

Delhi Congress chief Devender Yadav criticised the delay in conducting the bypolls, saying it had “severely affected the event” of those wards because of the absence of elected councillors.

In a bid to forestall voter confusion attributable to a number of candidates sharing the identical title, the State Election Commission will embody images of bona fide candidates on the EVMs.

Officials mentioned situations had been reported the place names of such candidates appeared consecutively on ballots as a consequence of alphabetical order, resulting in mix-ups amongst voters.

According to the rules, the color images with a white or off-white background will show the face of the candidate on two-thirds of the photograph area for higher visibility.
