Azharuddin sworn in as Minister in Telangana Cabinet

Md. Azharuddin, former cricketer and Congress chief, was sworn in as a Minister within the Telangana Cabinet on Friday (October 31, 2025). Government Jishnu Dev Varma administered oath of workplace and secrecy at a ceremony held at Raj Bhavan in Hyderabad. 

Speculations have been rife in regards to the portfolio that he could be allotted. He is the sixteenth Minister of the State.The Cabinet in August cleared the identify of Mr. Azharuddin, together with Kodandaram, for nomination to the Legislative Council below Governor’s quota. 

After information broke about his proposed induction into the Cabinet, Opposition events raised objections. Bharatiya Janata Party’s State unit leaders mentioned it violates the Model Code of Conduct (MCC), which is in drive for the Jubilee Hills Assembly byelections and that his induction by Congress Government is to appease minority votes.Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president Okay.T. Rama Rao mentioned that it was a final resort to win over minorities – who type a serious chunk of voters within the constituency.
