‘Man-eater’ leopard shot useless in Pune

A group of sharpshooters has killed a “man-eater” leopard in Maharashtra’s Pune district, forest officers stated on Wednesday (November 5, 2025).

In the final one month, two minors and an aged individual had been killed in leopard assaults within the Mauje Pimparkhed space of Shirur tehsil within the district.

The incidents sparked large public outrage throughout Junnar, Shirur, Ambegaon and Khed talukas, the place leopard assaults have escalated sharply.

After the dying of a 13-year-old boy in a leopard assault on Sunday (November 2, 2025), enraged locals set ablaze a forest division car. The forest authorities on Monday (November 3, 2025) ordered the seize and “elimination” of the animal.

“The man-eater leopard was spotted 400 to 500 metres from the attack site on Tuesday (November 4, 2025) night. The team of sharpshooters fired a tranquilising dart, but it failed. As the leopard became aggressive and was approaching them to attack, the shooters opened fire at around 10:30 p.m., killing the feline. The leopard was in the age group of 5 to 6 years,” an official from Junnar forest division stated.

The carcass was proven to villagers in Pimparkhed and later shifted to the Manikdoh Rescue Centre for autopsy, the official stated.

On Tuesday, a male leopard was captured because it walked right into a cage arrange for the large cats.
