Tiger assaults: Karnataka Minister orders closure of safari in Bandipur and Nagarahole

Amid rising tiger assaults in Mysuru area resulting in the tragic deaths of farmers, Karnataka’s Forest Minister Eshwar B. Khandre ordered the fast closure of safari operations in Nagarahole and Bandipur, together with the suspension of trekking actions in human–wildlife battle zones. The Minister has directed that each one obtainable forest personnel be deployed for the operation to seize the tiger liable for repeated assaults on people.

In a written directive to the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) and Chief Wildlife Warden, Mr. Khandre expressed deep sorrow over the demise of Chowdaiah Naika (35), who was killed in a tiger assault close to Hale Heggodilu village within the Moleyur vary of Saragur taluk in Mysuru district on November 7 morning.

He ordered that each safari operations stay closed till additional discover, and that the providers of officers, and safari employees be diverted to assist the operation to seize the tiger.

The Minister famous that three lives have been misplaced in tiger assaults alongside the fringes of the Nagarahole–Bandipur forests in Mysuru and Chamarajanagar districts within the final one month, which he described as deeply distressing.

Recalling conferences held on October 27 in Bandipur and on November 2 in Chamarajanagar attended by Chamarajanagar district In-charge Minister Ok. Venkatesh, Mysuru district in-charge and Social Welfare Minister Dr. H.C. Mahadevappa, and native legislators, Mr. Khandre mentioned that clear directions had been issued to accentuate efforts to seize the tiger, and to be ready to shut safari operations, if needed. “Yet, the recurrence of such a tragic incident is surprising,” he mentioned.

In view of the demise attributable to tiger assault reported on November 7, the Minister has ordered that trekking in conflict-prone areas be suspended, and that each one officers, safari employees and car drivers be reassigned to the operation to seize the tiger. He has additionally instructed the Additional PCCF (Wildlife) and Project Tiger administrators to camp on-site and personally supervise efforts to seize the tiger.
