For over 23 years, Siruthuli has been devoted to the revival of the Noyyal River System, constantly engaged on cleansing feeder streams, desilting anicuts, and restoring irrigation channels that convey lifeline water to farmlands. Anicuts type an integral a part of this technique, channelising river water to the interconnected tanks of Coimbatore. However, years of neglect has rendered many anicuts ineffective, disrupting the pure stream of water and weakening the effectivity of the area’s conventional water-management system.
The rejuvenation of those anicuts and feeder channels will improve water-holding capability, enhance groundwater recharge, and allow the graceful motion of recent water into the tanks – an pressing necessity at a time when most main lakes in Coimbatore face contamination from wastewater, resulting in aquifer degradation.
The rejuvenation works have been inaugurated within the presence District Collector Pavankumar G. Giriyappanavar, Head – CSR Cell, Karur Vysya Bank, Nadhiya Mali, Coimbatore Divisional Manager, KVB, Krishnan, together with Vanitha Mohan, Managing Trustee, Siruthuli, Nallathambi, Assistant Engineer, Water Resources Department and farmer affiliation leaders S. Palanisamy and Mr. Aruchamy.
The rejuvenation of Pudukkadu Anaicut will increase the groundwater recharge, enhance agricultural productiveness of farmers located adjoining to the anicut and feeder channel and enhance cultivation space. It will profit 533 ayacut acres and 180 farmers instantly and 1,066 farmers not directly. As many as 180 open wells and 150 bore wells can be recharged.
The Kil Chitiraichavadi Anaicut will guarantee enhanced groundwater recharge, a surge in agricultural productiveness of farmers located adjoining to the anicut, elevated cultivation space, and improved productiveness ensuing within the change of cropping patterns. As many as 2,093 ayacut acres and 697 farmers can be benefitted instantly and 2,500 farmers not directly. It will recharge 697 open wells and 700 bore wells.
