Balaji Nagar is one of the biggest localities in Puzhuthivakkam with nearly 45 streets. The 37th Street is the main thoroughfare through which the residents could reach the Inner Ring Road Extension which links Velachery Main Road and GST Road.
The road is filled with big potholes and craters for the entire stretch of the street, forcing two-wheeler riders, particularly parents taking their children to schools, to undertake a painstaking journey daily.
Residents attribute the poor condition of the road to the leak in the water pipeline at the junction of the 37th and 36th street, with overflowing water damaging the road badly.
S. Kumar, a resident, , the road condition has become worse with the officials of the Chennai corporation not taking any steps to even restore the road. The residents have complained to the local officials of the civic body but the plea has only fallen on deaf ears, the residents said.
A senior official of the Chennai Corporation said steps would be taken to repave the 37th street once the northeast monsoon withdraws as the tender for restoring the road has been called for.
