Governor, CM, Ministers pay tributes to poetSubramania Bharati

Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and Ministers paid tributes to poet Subramania Bharati on the occasion of the latter’s birth anniversary on Thursday.

A social media post by the Lok Bhavan said the Governor paid floral tributes to ‘Mahakavi’ Subramania Bharathi on his birth anniversary at the historic Bharathiar Ninaivu Illam in Triplicane, the home where he lived.

Mr. Stalin in a social media post recalled the late poet’s ideal of empowerment of women and listed out the steps taken by his government in this regard. He said it was from one of his works, one of the programmes was named ‘Pudhumai Penn.’

Ministers M.P. Saminathan and P.K. Sekarbabu; Chennai Mayor R. Priya and senior officials paid floral tributes to a portrait of the late poet during an event on Kamarajar Salai in Chennai on Thursday.

In another social media post, Mr. Stalin referred to the FIH Mens Junior World Cup that concluded in Chennai on Wednesday and said Chennai has yet again proved to be a world-class host.

“Spirit. Skill. Spark. That’s champion energy! Congrats Germany on lifting the #FIHMensJuniorWorldCup, big applause to Spain for a gritty fight, and full respect to India and Argentina for giving their best. Tamil Nadu once again proves its global calibre, world-class hosting, warm hospitality, and a thriving ecosystem that nurtures sporting excellence.”

Referring to a news report published in The Hindu about senior IAS officer Supriya Sahu receiving the UNEP’s Champion of the Earth as one of the five recipients, Mr. Stalin said Tamil Nadu took pride in the bureaucrat receiving the award.

The CM further hoped that the award would encourage her to continue with her work in the protection of wetlands, in promoting mangrove forests and protecting endangered wildlife, reduced use of plastic, among others.
