Universal Pictures has unveiled the first trailer for Disclosure Day, Steven Spielberg’s latest feature, marking the filmmaker’s return to science fiction with a story centered on humanity’s first confirmed contact with extraterrestrial life.

The trailer introduces Emily Blunt as a television meteorologist whose routine broadcast is abruptly disrupted by an unexplained force, hinting at an event that reverberates far beyond the moment on air. Josh O’Connor co-stars as a man driven to make public what he believes is undeniable proof that humans are not alone in the universe. The footage suggests a world on the edge of revelation, filled with ominous imagery that includes strange animal behavior, crop formations and escalating public unease.

Spielberg developed the project with longtime collaborator David Koepp, reuniting a partnership that previously produced Jurassic Park, War of the Worlds and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. The film also stars Colin Firth, Colman Domingo, Eve Hewson, Wyatt Russell and Henry Lloyd-Hughes.

Aliens and spacecraft remain largely unseen, replaced by implication and dialogue that frames disclosure as a moral and societal reckoning. Disclosure Day is Spielberg’s first film since The Fabelmans and his 37th as a director, returning him to a genre that has defined much of his legacy. From Close Encounters of the Third Kind and E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial to A.I. Artificial Intelligence and War of the Worlds, Spielberg has repeatedly used science fiction to explore awe, fear and collective responsibility.

The project has been closely guarded, with early marketing limited to billboards declaring, “All will be disclosed.” Universal is positioning the trailer rollout alongside major summer releases like Christopher Nolan’s, The Odyssey.

Produced by Spielberg and Kristie Macosko Krieger through Amblin Entertainment, Disclosure Day is scheduled to open in theaters on June 12, 2026.
