Ensuring selection process is transparent and merit-based top priority , says new UPESSC chairman Prashant Kumar

The newly appointed chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC) Prashant Kumar on Sunday (December 21, 2025) said that his top priority is to ensure that the selection process is completely transparent and merit-based with zero tolerance on impropriety. Mr. Kumar, a retired 1990-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer and former U.P. Director General of Police (DGP) added that technology-based processes will be strengthened by the commission to carry out recruitment in a timely manner, so that every eligible candidate gets fair opportunity. 

“My top priority is to ensure that the selection process is completely transparent and merit-based with zero tolerance on impropriety in line with the policies of the honourable Chief Minister and the government,” Mr. Kumar said.  

He added, “Technology-based processes will be strengthened to carry out recruitment in a timely manner, so that every eligible candidate gets his/her fair opportunity”. 

Speaking to The Hindu, the new Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission chairman said, “The goal is not just appointment, it is to win the trust of the youth of Uttar Pradesh and the guarantee of their golden future”.

The Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission, established in 2023 is entrusted with the responsibility for the selection of teachers in government schools, aided non-government colleges and aided minority colleges, aided non-government intermediate colleges, higher secondary schools, schools run and managed by the U.P. Basic Education Board, aided junior high schools and their affiliated primary schools, aided minority junior high schools and their affiliated primary schools across the state. In recent times it faced questions over postponement of various recruitment and eligibility tests like Trained Graduate Teacher (TGT) and PGT.
