The first teaser for Avengers: Doomsday has officially been released, confirming that Chris Evans is returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Steve Rogers. The brief footage, running just under 90 seconds, shows Rogers living a quieter life far removed from his superhero past. He rides a motorcycle along an isolated road, arrives at a small home and is seen boxing away his Captain America uniform. The teaser then reveals another major development: Rogers is now supposedly a father, shown gently holding a sleeping baby before the screen declares, “Steve Rogers Will Return in Avengers: Doomsday.”

Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, Avengers: Doomsday marks the pair’s return to Marvel’s flagship franchise after previously helming Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. The filmmakers accompanied the teaser online with a statement reflecting on their history with the character, describing Rogers’ story as central to the journey that brought audiences and creators together.

The film is the fifth major Avengers installment and the 39th entry in the MCU. It will feature Robert Downey Jr. as the film’s primary antagonist, Doctor Doom, along with a significantly expanded ensemble that includes members of the Fantastic Four, the original X-Men, and the cast of Thunderbolts. Disney originally intended the teaser to debut exclusively in cinemas ahead of Avatar: Fire and Ash, but following leaks and mixed fan reaction to staggered theatrical rollout plans, the studio opted for an official online release.

Evans first played Steve Rogers in Captain America: The First Avenger in 2011 and continued through multiple MCU films, concluding his arc in Avengers: Endgame, where Rogers chose to live out his life in the past and handed his shield to Sam Wilson. His unexpected return immediately reignites speculation over whether he will once again suit up as Captain America or remain anchored in his new life.

Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to release in theaters on December 18, 2026.
