DGP Ramachandra Rao visits Inam Honnapur village

K. Ramachandra Rao, Director General of Police (DGP) of the Directorate of Civil Rights Enforcement, has said that the police had taken the reported ‘honour killing’ incident at Inam Veerapur in Hubballi taluk of Dharwad district seriously and a chargesheet would be filed within sixty days.

He was speaking to presspersons in Hubballi on Saturday after visiting Inam Veerapur village and interacting with the victim’s family including Vivekanand Doddamani, victim’s husband, and others affected in the incident.

Mr. Ramachandra Rao said that a case has already been registered against 14 persons in this connection, and eight have already been arrested. “The CCTV installed before the residence of Vivekanand Doddamani has captured the assault. Apart from this, we have collected digital evidence through the recovery of mobile phones from the accused. The digital evidence has been sent to Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) and based on the report, chargesheet will be pepared,” he said.

He said that, as per law, the chargesheet had to be filed before the court within sixty days of the incident of atrocity. A proposal for setting up of special court and appointment of a Special Public Prosecutor had been sent to the government, and approval was expected at the earliest. All steps would be taken to ensure justice to the affected people, he said.

Bandobast to continue

The DGP said that the bandobast in the village would continue to ensure law and order. He said that inquiry was going on the right direction and all the guilty would be brought to book.

Mr. Ramachandra Rao said that around 2,300 to 2,500 cases of atrocities were reported in the State every year. “However, compared to 2024, the cases of atrocities have increased in the State during 2025. The victims are requested to appear before DCRE or nearest police station,” he said

Superintendent of Police Dharwad district Gunjan Arya said that post the shocking incident, the police had provided security in the village, and two police constables had been suspended. All necessary measures were taken to ensure that such instances do not recur,” he said.

Earlier, Mr. Ramachandra Rao visited Inam Veerapur village and consoled the family members of the deceased person. He visited Vivekanand Hospital in Hubballi and spoke to Renavva Doddamani, who is recuperating in the hospital after being attacked.
