Pongal gift hamper distribution begins in Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri districts

The distribution of Pongal gift hamper began in Krishnagiri on Thursday (January 8, 2026) to cover 5,77,217 rice cardholders, including 335 Sri Lankan Tamils, at a cost of ₹179.60 crore.

Earlier, Collector C. Dinesh Kumar launched the distribution of gift hamper comprising of 1 kg rice, 1 kg sugar, a whole sugarcane, cash of ₹3,000, saree and dhoti at the Marudepalli primary agriculture cooperative credit society in Bargur union.

The hampers will be distributed through 1,094 fair price outlets that include 1058 cooperative society run fair price outlets and 36 Civil Supplies Corporation run fair price outlets.

In Dharmapuri, Collector R. Sadheesh inaugurated the distribution of Pongal gift hampers here at the Adhyamankottai Cooperative Society fair price outlet.

The distribution will cover 4,75,621 family card holders and 781 Sri Lankan Tamils at a cumulative cost of ₹147.96 crore through 1106 fair price outlets.

According to the administration, all smart cardholders will receive their hampers on time and all fair price outlets have been instructed to follow a staggered system of distribution.

All fair price outlets will function on Friday (9 January, 2026) to accomplish the distribution process.
