Founder and president of Vriksha Mithra, a voluntary organisation dedicated to environmental protection and community development, M.V. Nagavender Rao, commended depot managers, supervisors, and staff for their efforts in maintaining greenery within the premises. He visited the Jangaon and Warangal-1 bus depots of TGSRTC a couple of days back.
Mr. Rao, a former Executive Director (Engineering) with the erstwhile APSRTC, recalled a significant plantation drive held in August last year, during which 250 sandalwood saplings were planted at the Karimnagar Zonal Workshop with the support of RTC and Forest Department officials.
He encouraged employees to plant saplings on special occasions such as birthdays and wedding anniversaries and to inspire their families and friends to follow suit.
He also highlighted the importance of using public transport to reduce air pollution and praised the Telangana government’s initiative of offering free bus travel for women. Rao suggested extending similar eco-friendly measures to all commuters in the future to minimize reliance on private vehicles and conserve fuel.
Later, Mr. Rao visited NIT Warangal, where he admired the lush greenery on campus and the thriving saplings planted by his batchmates during their Golden Jubilee Reunion in October 2023. He met NIT Director Bidyadhar Subudhi and congratulated the institute for its exemplary green initiatives. He also proposed collaborative efforts between Vriksha Mithra and NIT to further accelerate environmental programs, to which the Director responded positively, assuring detailed discussions to plan joint activities soon.
