Later, on a social media post, a person, identifying himself as Randeep Malik, took responsibility for the shootout, claiming that he did it as the gym owner was not answering his phone calls. Claiming to be a member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, he threatened dire consequences if calls were not answered in the future.
Police said the firing did occur, but they have not received any complaint. “Two shots were fired around 11 p.m. on Monday. However, no complaint has been received so far,” said Sachin Sharma, DCP (Outer District). “We are trying to verify the credibility of the social media post,” the DCP added. Police have increased patrolling in the area.
The shootout comes on the day when the police announced the arrest of over 250 individuals associated with various gangs in the city.
In another incident, two persons fired three rounds outside a house in West Vinod Nagar on Monday night and fled.
“The crime team conducted a detailed inspection of the scene. Based on the facts, witness statements, and available evidence, an FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the BNS and Arms Act. Investigation is underway, and efforts are being made to identify and apprehend the accused at the earliest,” the police said.
