Maruti, Mahindra and Tata lead December 2025 car sales; Kia posts highest growth

Maruti dominated December sales as Tata and Mahindra went neck-and-neck, while Kia and Toyota wrapped up the year with strong momentum.

India’s passenger vehicle market ended December 2025 on a positive note, with most major carmakers reporting year-on-year growth in domestic sales. Maruti Suzuki continued to lead the market comfortably, while Tata Motors, Kia and Toyota emerged as key gainers during the month, according to SIAM data.

Domestic sales: strong finish to the year for most carmakers

Maruti Suzuki remained India’s largest carmaker in December 2025, clocking domestic sales of 1,78,646 units, up 37 per cent compared to the same month last year. Strong demand across entry-level cars, SUVs and MPVs helped the company end the year on a high.

Mahindra & Mahindra held on to second place with 50,946 units, registering a 23 per cent year-on-year increase. Close behind, Tata Motors reported domestic passenger vehicle sales of 50,046 units, up 13.1 per cent from 44,230 units sold in December 2024, making it one of the stronger performers among large manufacturers.

Hyundai Motor India ranked fourth with 42,416 units, posting a marginal 0.5 per cent increase year-on-year. Toyota Kirloskar Motor had a solid month, with domestic sales rising 37 per cent to 34,153 units, supported by consistent demand for its hybrid and MPV lineup.

Kia India stood out with one of the fastest growth rates in December, more than doubling its domestic sales to 18,659 units, reporting a YoY growth of 108%. Among mid-sized players, Skoda Auto India reported a 22 per cent rise in volumes, while Honda Cars India posted modest growth of around 4 per cent. Renault India also ended the month in positive territory with a 33 per cent increase.

On the other hand, JSW MG Motor India saw a sharp 41 per cent decline in domestic sales. Nissan Motor India and Volkswagen India also reported year-on-year drops, while Isuzu Motors India continued to post low volumes in the Indian market.
