Innings win over Kerala massive, says Chandigarh captain Manan Vohra

Chandigarh captain Manan Vohra described his team’s thumping win over last year’s Ranji runner-up Kerala as “massive” and complimented the effort of the bowlers, especially Player-of-the-Match Rohit Dhanda.

“To be honest, we came here with hopes of getting at least one point, given how poorly we have performed this season. But to beat Kerala by an innings was massive, we never expected it. This win will give us a lot of confidence for the future,” said Vohra.

He said the surface was a bit challenging and there was help for the bowlers on the first day, which Rohit exploited. According to him, the Chandigarh bowlers were rewarded for sticking to the basics and were helped by poor strokes from the Kerala batters. “We would have batted first as well on this pitch. There was some help for the bowlers on the first day. But I think Rohit bowled really well. We knew we were in the driver’s seat when we dismissed Kerala for 139 in the first innings,” said Vohra.

“I expected Kerala to put up a better show with the bat in the second innings. We got early breakthroughs in the morning which put them under pressure. Some of the Kerala batters played bad strokes and it made things easier for us,” added Vohra.

Meanwhile, Rohit spoke about how he went about his business. “I just stuck to the basics and bowled a stump-to-stump line. I didn’t deliver many bad balls and it worked,” said Rohit, who bagged seven wickets in the match.
