MGM Healthcare trains over 770 citizens in life saving skills in a single day

The MGM Healthcare Group, MGM Healthcare Seven Hills, rolled out a Basic Life Support (BLS) training programme at 77 locations across Visakhapatnam, Chennai and Madurai to mark the 77th Republic Day 2026. Later, the group felicitated trainers for their role in delivering one of the largest coordinated community life-saving initiatives, empowering citizens with critical first-response skills and reinforcing a culture of emergency preparedness across communities.

Amidst a rise in sudden cardiac arrests in India including among younger adults, recent data indicates that over 25% of heart attacks occur in individuals under 40, while 15–20% cases affect those below 50, signalling a growing public health concern. Bystander CPR rates remain critically low. MGM Healthcare’s initiative focuses on bridging the critical gap between the onset of a cardiac emergency and timely medical intervention.

Under the MGM Healthcare flagship CSR initiative, “One Nation. One Skill. Infinite Lives,” over 770 citizens were successfully trained in a single day across cities, making it one of the largest coordinated Basic Life Support (BLS) training efforts conducted in the city and beyond. The programme covered CPR, choking response and AED awareness, with hands-on demonstrations delivered by certified clinicians and trainers from MGM Healthcare, said a statement, issued on Sunday.

The training sessions were conducted across public spaces, educational institutions, corporate parks and communities in Visakhapatnam and select outstation districts. Participants received a certificate of completion at the end of the training session.

Speaking on the initiative, Dr Raghavendra, deputy medical Ssuperintendent, MGM SevenHills Hospital said, “Every minute matters in a medical emergency. Through this Republic Day initiative, we aimed to ensure that citizens across communities gain confidence and skills needed to save lives before medical help arrives.”

Dr Giri Babu Nadella, Chief Operating Officer, MGM SevenHills Hospital added, “Saving a life is not just a medical skill, but a shared civic responsibility, and by training communities at scale, we are strengthening India’s emergency preparedness beyond hospital walls.”
