To reduce reliance on physical insurance cards under the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme (CMCHIS) and to ensure seamless and easy access to information for beneficiaries, the State government has launched a mobile application, CMCHIS-ABPMJAY. Simultaneously, efforts are under way to link beneficiary health records on the application.

More than 1.40 crore families are enrolled under the CMCHIS. It provides insurance coverage of up to ₹5 lakh, covering 2,053 surgical and medical procedures, including cardiac surgeries, cancer treatments and dialysis, at government and empaneled private hospitals.

“There have been instances in which hospitals ask patients to bring their insurance cards. This makes the process difficult as they would have to go back to their villages. With this app, there is no need for them to produce a physical insurance card, as they can show the digital card on the app,” an official said.

The Aadhaar-seeded application is available on the Google Play Store for Android users, he said, adding that beneficiaries could enter their Aadhaar-linked mobile phone number to receive an OTP for login.

Officials of the Tamil Nadu Health System Project said beneficiaries could use the app to search for government and private hospitals, which are empaneled under CMCHIS, by hospital name, district, hospital type (government or private), and specialty. “They can view details of empaneled hospitals within a 60-km range. We are in the process of updating the contact numbers of these hospitals,” he said.

With the app rolled out, a number of features are being added. The official said work to link beneficiary health records was in progress. “In the months to come, details of pre-authorisation, amount approved and claims information will be available on the app. All these efforts are to simplify processes using technology so that beneficiaries can access information easily,” he added.

Apart from the app, the website of CMCHIS also has a feature to generate e-card, he said, noting that the e-card is valid, and there is no need for physical insurance cards. “Back-end work to launch a QR code scanner is also in progress,” the official said.
