Looking after your health, The Curvy Kate way

World Health Day might pale in comparison to the upcoming festivities of Easter, but at Curvy Kate, we think it’s a great time to make some health improvement, check in on those new years resolutions and put some new habits in place.

PSA: All Bodies are Beach Bodies

It’s tempting to go into overdrive, desperate in pursuit of a ‘beach body’ (News flash: Every body is a beach body in a swimsuit). But this list is not that, nor is it a collection of punishing workouts that leave you aching for days to come. Instead, we wanted to offer up some practical, accessible and fun ways to recentre your health as summer approaches. This is not the time to ‘lock in’ at the gym but rather a season for reflection, growth and kindness to yourself.

Looking good starts with the fit

Our health is not just what we put into our bodies, but also what we put on them. Ill fitting clothes, poor quality shoes and bad underwear can have big effects on your health. It starts with the base- well crafted briefs for the health of your reproductive organs and a bra that fits well supporting you and your bust. The fabric composition of your underwear can leave to odour issues, or a changed PH whilst a bad fitting bra can cause back problems.

The ten minute spark

It’s easy to get stuck in your routine, to forget to put yourself first or running through the motions and living for the weekends. Make a list of small things you enjoy doing or that bring you joy, from listening to music, a special tea or writing your diary, and resolve to add one ten minute joy into everyday, taking the time to slow down and smile. Happiness is the key to a healthy and full life, so make time for it everyday, even if it is just ten minutes in your lunch break to listen to a good playlist and sit in the sun.

Food for the soul

Eating well might have it’s draw, and our bodies need certain amounts of fibre, protein and fat to function well, but eating for your soul is equally important. We’re visual creatures, as well as valuing taste and often the fun of food. Make you nourish your mental well being, socialising with food, trying new recipes and indulging in treats. Feeding your soul also entails removing labels around food, and the negative feelings these can bring- honour your cravings, taste you food and make moments out of good meals.

Getting offline

Social media is a place of fun, keeping up with friends and often, information. But endless scrolling isn’t always the healthiest activity and takes you out of the day to day. Studies demonstrate how it can affect sleep, mental well-being and focus. Taking an hour off screens a day can help rebalance you and gives you time to indulge in hobbies or tasks procrastinated. Use the hour to chat or reconnect with family, give a friend a call as opposed to a WhatsApp or take a short walk.

Investing in our wellbeing, our happiness, mental joy and wellness is never a waste.
