Supriya Sule alleges 4,800-crore rip-off in Ladki Bahin Yojana

Nationalist Congress Party (SP) MP Supriya Sule on Tuesday (July 29, 2025) accused the Maharashtra authorities of committing a “₹4,800-crore rip-off” within the Mukhyamantri Maajhi Ladki Bahin Yojana and demanded a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe into the alleged irregularities. 

Her allegations come two days after the Maharashtra authorities introduced a brief suspension of ₹1,500 month-to-month assist to 26.34 lakh beneficiaries following a verification drive that reportedly revealed the presence of 1000’s of ineligible beneficiaries, together with 14,000 males, on the listing. State Women and Child Development Minister Aditi Tatkare had mentioned that the eligibility of the suspended beneficiaries could be verified by their respective District Collectors. 

Ms. Sule questioned the method by way of which the federal government had verified and recognized the beneficiaries. “The authorities rejects, on the smallest of pretexts, purposes of individuals attempting to entry well being, schooling, and crop insurance coverage schemes. How did the system permit males to obtain money funds by way of direct profit transfers?” she mentioned. 

Pinning the blame concerning the “irregularities” on Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, the Baramati MP mentioned, “Men should take the duty. I gained’t accuse Tatkare as the choice was handed by the State Cabinet unanimously.”

The Ladki Bahin scheme was launched in August 2024 forward of the Maharashtra Assembly election held later that 12 months in November. The scheme was thought-about one of many causes for the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance’s victory within the ballot. However, after the election, the federal government began a scrutiny of the beneficiaries to weed out unlawful beneficiaries.

“If the matter will not be investigated, then we’ll elevate the demand for a probe in Parliament,” the NCP (SP) chief advised mediapersonsin New Delhi.
