U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday (August 6) signed an govt order imposing an extra 25% tariff on imports from India, in response to India “straight or not directly” importing oil from Russia. This is over and above the 25% tariff on Indian imports that Mr. Trump authorised on July 31.

Ambassador (ret.) Atul Keshap, President, USIBC, in a press release stated, “The partnership the United States and India have cast lately has introduced important mutual advantages, and our elected leaders needs to be happy with all they’ve achieved.”
“The enterprise neighborhood sees our shared strategic pursuits and complementary economies as highly effective arguments to proceed on this path. It’s time to redouble our efforts, not pull aside. Business stands prepared to assist.”, he added.
Earlier, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) responded to those newest developments, saying it has made its stand clear — via an earlier assertion following Mr. Trump’s risk of extra tariffs — that these actions had been “unfair, unjustified and unreasonable”. It was “extraordinarily unlucky” that the U.S. has chosen this plan of action, the MEA stated.
