Six kumkis deployed to sort out wild elephants in Keeramanda, Kodalamadugu villages

The Chittoor west division forest authorities have pressed into motion a batch of six skilled elephants also referred to as kumkis, to sort out the crop-raiding wild elephants, at forested villages of Keeramanda and Kodalamadugu in Bangarupalem mandal on Thursday evening.

The kumki squad has Deva, Rajan, Abhimanyu, and Krishna from Karnataka, together with the home duo Vinayak and Jayanth from Naniyala elephant camp at Ramakuppam.

Senior forest officers stated that in response to the grievances of the farmers of the forested villages about frequent elephant raids in and across the Koundinya wildlife sanctuary belt, the particular kumki drive was launched with 12 mahouts and 40 personnel, together with forest watchers and elephant trackers.
