Ancient sculptures discovered

Stone sculptures of assorted deities have been discovered by a gaggle of researchers and college students throughout a discipline survey at Senaiyyakkudi village in Kulathur taluk within the district just lately..

The survey was led by A. Manikandan, founding father of Pudukottai Archaeological Research Forum, together with Karu Rajendran of Melappanayur and Thanjavur Tamil University archaeology college students involving the locals.

The sculpture of six-headed Lord Murugan, believed to be belonging to the twelfth century, seated on a peacock was discovered on a discipline mound. The partially broken idol on a lotus pedestal was discovered with solely six arms out of the 12 arms holding weapons.

A sculpture of Lord Vishnu in standing posture with conch, believed to be thirteenth century, was uncovered from a thorny grove east of Senaiyakkudi Kanmai, mentioned Mr. Manikandan.  A headless Jain sculpture with a damaged head and legs was discovered buried in a mound close to the Vishnu sculpture. The Jain sculpture is believed to be belonging to the ninth century. A sculpture of Lord Ayyanar was discovered within the sugarcane discipline close to the Pidari temple. 

The sculpture with a smiling expression is discovered holding a lotus bud in the correct hand with the left hand resting on the left knee. Another Ayyanar sculpture with a damaged proper hand was found close to Periya Kanmai. A ‘Soolakkal’ (pillar base) and a sculpture of an historic mom goddess referred to as “Thavvai” have been additionally discovered.
