Architectural Sketches: From Concept to Construction

In his latest project, Dominican Republic native Jorge Brown Cott reimagines the interiors of a Brooklyn townhouse for a young family passionate about collectible design. Balancing practicality with artistry, the space showcases emerging designers like Sten Studio, Luke Malaney, Kouros Maghsoudi, and Jeremy Anderson.

“Jorge Brown Cott seamlessly integrates architectural addiction into every aspect of the Brooklyn townhouse’s redesign, creating an inspiring blend of artistic expression and functional living space.”

Founder of Design Week República Dominicana (DWRD), Brown brings a dynamic approach informed by his extensive experience in crafts and collectible design. His vision seamlessly integrates art with everyday living, bridging the gap between comfort and aesthetic allure.

The residence harmonizes gentle and bold elements, blending organic curves with strong lines and juxtaposing soft textiles against natural stone and wood. Each piece, characterized by substantial forms and voluminous shapes, contributes to a cohesive aesthetic that celebrates both domestic comfort and artistic sophistication.

Challenging the notion of collectible design as cold and impractical, Brown Cott’s design ethos emphasizes coziness, homeliness, and timelessness. Inspired by diverse influences—from 1950s Italian cinema to Saint Laurent’s Morocco and Central Asian textiles—his interiors reflect elegance infused with unexpected, artisanal touches from the Dominican Republic and Latin America.

In his inaugural project in the United States, Brown Cott aimed to redefine collectible design, rejecting its stereotype as cold and impractical. His vision was to craft spaces that exude warmth, homeliness, and enduring appeal,” he explains, emphasizing a novel approach to functional art. Brown Cott’s design philosophy transcends categorization, drawing inspiration from a wide array of influences including 1950s Italian cinema, the exoticism of Saint Laurent’s Morocco, and the rich textures of Central Asian textiles. Rooted in the artisanal traditions of the Dominican Republic and Latin America, his creations seamlessly blend sophistication with unexpected flourishes, resulting in interiors that are both elegant and refreshingly distinctive.
