India, Nepal ink pact to step up commerce ties

India and Nepal have amended the Treaty of Transit between the 2 international locations to facilitate the motion of rail-based freight between Jogbani in India and Biratnagar in Nepal, together with bulk cargo.

“This signing will facilitate the motion of rail-based freight between Jogbani (India) and Biratnagar (Nepal) together with bulk cargo below an expanded definition,” the federal government stated in a launch. 

“This liberalisation extends to key transit corridors — Kolkata-Jogbani, Kolkata-Nautanwa (Sunauli), and Visakhapatnam-Nautanwa (Sunauli), thereby strengthening multimodal commerce connectivity between the 2 international locations and Nepal’s commerce with third international locations,” the discharge added.

The two Ministers additionally welcomed the continuing bilateral initiatives to boost cross-border connectivity and commerce.
