2.57 crore in Udupi, 9.54 crore in Dakshina Kannada availed of Shakti scheme

Over 2.57 crore girls have travelled by availing of the Shakti scheme advantages since its launch on June 11, 2023, in Udupi district, with the federal government bearing ₹90.1 crore value, stated District Guarantee Implementation Committee president Ashok Kumar Kodavoor, on Monday.

He was talking on the celebration of street transport companies of the State crossing the 500-crore mark by way of the variety of girls passengers who’ve benefited from the scheme, with the federal government reimbursing greater than ₹12,000 crore to the 4 RTCs of the State.

Speaking after inaugurating the celebrations on the Udupi Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus terminal, Deputy Commissioner T.Ok. Swaroopa stated the Shakti scheme has boosted girls empowerment initiatives of the federal government. The free journey facility for ladies, woman college students and sexual minorities has enhanced the boldness of the beneficiaries, too, she stated. It has helped girls to undertake self-employment, get an schooling and undertake different routine work.

Former Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake stated the scheme has empowered girls, most of whom have been confined throughout the 4 partitions of their homes, to expertise the world round them and develop. Government schemes of Shakti, Gruha Lakshmi, Anna Bhaga, Gruha Juyothi and Yuvanidhi have offered financial independence to girls, he stated.
