Arappor Iyakkam alleges unlawful plan approval for constructing on Pallikaranai marshland

Arappor Iyakkam, a non-governmental organisation, has alleged that unlawful environmental clearance and plan approval had been granted for a challenge to assemble multi-storeyed constructing inside the Pallikaranai marshland, which was recognised as a Ramsar website.

In a press convention held within the metropolis on Thursday, Jayaram Venkatesan, the NGO’s convenor, mentioned the 14.7 acre land proposed for the challenge—Brigade Morgan Heights—by Brigade Enterprises Limited in Perumbakkam falls inside the Ramsar website boundary of the Pallikaranai marshland as per the map of the State Wetland Authority of Tamil Nadu.

Complaint to DVAC

In an in depth grievance submitted to the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC), Chief Minister’s workplace and numerous different authorities companies, the Arappor Iyakkam mentioned the setting clearance and plan approval for a challenge value ₹2,000 crore was obtained illegally for the extent of land at survey numbers- 453, 495/2c, 496,497 and 498- in Perumbakkam.

Flood threat

If the challenge is accomplished, it could worsen the flood threat of surrounding areas, together with Perumbakkam and Sholinganallur.

The NGO additionally famous that the Forest Department had given a false report that the challenge was 65 metres away from the Pallikaranai marshland whereas the adjoining land was below the management of the Forest Department.

It has submitted an annexure of 26 paperwork and sought accountability to be fastened for departments like Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority and Forest Department. Alleging gross violation of the Wetland (Conservation and Management) Rules 2017 that restricted everlasting development actions, the NGO sought quick cancellation of the approvals and an investigation in opposition to the corporate and authorities officers for violations.

The land inside the marshland have to be reclaimed instantly, he mentioned.
