Bengali-speaking individuals from Assam detained in Gurugram by Haryana police, declare residents

The Haryana police have allegedly detained 26 Bengali-speaking individuals from Assam in Gurugram since Sunday morning on suspicion of being unlawful Bangladeshi immigrants, in line with eyewitnesses and residents of the realm.

The residents alleged that 21 males have been picked up from Gurugram’s Sector 103 on Sunday, whereas 5 others have been rounded up from the identical spot on Monday. The residents claimed that 5 detainees have been launched later within the day, they usually boarded trains again to their dwelling cities in Assam. However, the remaining 21 males are nonetheless in detention, they mentioned.

When reached for remark, the Haryana police didn’t reply.

Over the previous few days, police in a number of States, together with Odisha, Assam, Haryana, and Delhi, have been accused of illegally detaining Bengali-speaking migrant staff on suspicion of being unlawful immigrants from Bangladesh and harassing them.

“Around 11.30 a.m. on Sunday, I noticed the 21 males, who work as rag-pickers, being picked up by policemen wearing civvies,” claimed Anwar Hussain, 45, who lives a block away from the spot in Sector 103 from the place the lads have been allegedly rounded up.

“When the lads mentioned that they’re Indian residents, the officers requested for his or her paperwork. Before any of them may return to their rooms to fetch the ID playing cards, the police bundled them into vans and took them away,” alleged Mr. Hussain, who works as a rubbish collector and claims to be from Assam.

Another particular person from the locality, who didn’t want to be named, alleged that 5 extra individuals have been picked up round 9 a.m. on Monday. “Later within the day, 5 individuals have been launched by the police. All of them went straight to a railway station in Delhi to board a practice for Assam,” the resident mentioned.
