Bengaluru Traffic Police books over 12,000 one-way driving cases in four days

Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP) booked 12,207 cases of one-way driving violations over four days during a special enforcement drive.

According to the data, the highest number of cases was booked in the East Division with 3,140 cases, followed by the North Division (2,955), South Division (2,904), and West Division (2,308).

The BTP launched the drive after last year’s (2025) ASTraM data revealed an increase in one-way driving violations, with several videos also circulating on social media, prompting calls for police action.

A senior police officer said that unless regular special drives are conducted and enforcement is tightened, such violations would continue to rise. “Therefore, a special drive was launched,” the officer said. The BTP is also planning to extend the special drive to helmetless riding and traffic violations that are witnessed frequently in the city.

Towing

Further, the BTP is preparing to restart towing operations. Three divisions have already received towing vehicles, and one more division is expected to receive them soon.

“We are awaiting the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) order. The police have made all arrangements, and once the circular is issued, we will begin enforcement,” the officer told The Hindu.

The senior officer added that the BTP will also hold another meeting with companies located along the Outer Ring Road in the East Division to discuss the implementation of several measures. This move follows the city being ranked second among the most congested cities in the world, according to the TomTom Traffic Index.
