The accident occurred on July 18 morning when 41-year-old conductor Ramesh tried to maneuver a stationary BMTC electrical bus (KA 51 AK 4170) on the Peenya bus stand. With the motive force away for a brief break, Ramesh, after acquiring signatures from a BMTC official, determined to maneuver the car to create space for different buses. However, he misplaced management of the car and drove the bus right into a makeshift eatery on the roadside.
Suma, a 25-year-old girl from Mandya who lived in Sunkadakatte and labored in a non-public agency, was standing close to the stall. She died on the spot. Four others sustained accidents. The bus reportedly travelled 50 to 80 metres earlier than halting.
Police from the Peenya Traffic Station arrested Ramesh shortly after the incident. Investigations revealed that Ramesh had beforehand served as a BMTC driver and had shifted to conductor duties within the earlier 12 months. Although he had expertise driving buses, he was not authorised to drive on the time of the accident, in line with BMTC officers.
A senior BMTC official confirmed Ramesh’s suspension and stated {that a} detailed inquiry is beneath method. “We are reviewing how such a lapse occurred, and are taking obligatory disciplinary measures,” the official stated.
