The Bombay High Court on Thursday (August 14, 2025) issued the sitting record for the newly constituted Circuit Bench at Kolhapur with impact from August 18, 2025. The Bench can be inaugurated by Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai on August 17 at 3:30 p.m. 

According to the notification dated August 14, 2025, the Division Bench comprising Justice M.S. Karnik and Justice Sharmila U. Deshmukh (Court Room No. 1) will take up, for admission, listening to, order issues and purposes of all public curiosity litigations; civil writ petitions; first appeals; household court docket appeals; contempt appeals; writ petitions, purposes and references referring to tax legal guidelines; below Section 13 of the Commercial Courts Act, 2015; letters patent appeals; prison writ petitions; prison purposes below Section 482 of Cr.P.C./528 of BNNS; prison appeals; affirmation of demise sentence instances with linked appeals; prison appeals below particular statutes pertaining to the Division Bench; prison contempt petitions; prison references; all writ petitions referring to furlough, parole, remission and commutation of sentence/untimely launch; and all different civil and prison work pertaining to the Division Bench from Kolhapur, Satara, Sangli, Solapur, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg. 

The Single Benches can be presided over by Justice Shivkumar Dige (Court Room No. 2) and Justice S.G. Chapalgaonkar (Court Room No. 3).  

Justice Dige will hear prison appeals; prison writ petitions pertaining to Single Bench; prison purposes below Section 482 of Cr.P.C./528 of BNNS pertaining to Single Bench; all prison revision purposes; all common bail purposes; all anticipatory bail purposes; all first appeals; all miscellaneous civil purposes; and all different prison work pertaining to Single Bench. He is appointed to listen to and resolve issues below the arbitration and conciliation Act, 1996. 

Justice Chapalgaonkar will hear all civil writ petitions pertaining to Single Bench; second appeals; civil revision purposes; appeals in opposition to orders; and all different civil work pertaining to Single Bench.  He is appointed to listen to and resolve the issues below the Companies Act, 1956, the Companies Act, 2013 and the Banking Regulation Act, 1949. 

The observe to the sitting record states that issues whereby the Apex Court has handed an order for expeditious or time-bound listening to, and issues of senior residents or marginalised sections, can be given precedence. Criminal appeals pending for greater than 5 years during which the accused is in jail can even be given precedence. 

It additional supplies that each one judges designated to attempt election petitions below the Representation of the People Act, 1951, shall assign a date within the week to take care of such petitions; contempt petition (civil) can be taken up by the involved Bench earlier than which the principle matter is pending; and upon change of roster, part-heard issues shall stand launched except all events collectively request retention and the Chief Justice approves.
