In a decision handed at its assembly of State and district-level principal office-bearers in Thanjavur on Tuesday, August 12, it was identified that the harvesting of ‘kuruvai’ crop started through the first week of September and a majority of the cropped space obtained harvested by the tip of the month. Hence, it could be helpful to farmers if the procurement season was superior by a month, and the State authorities should challenge a Government Order on this regard as early as doable.
Expressing its displeasure over relinquishment of ‘open storage’ idea by Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation, the Sangam, in one other decision, claimed that the paddy procured by the Corporation was uncovered to the pure components as the luggage have been saved on the direct procurement centre premises itself. This follow and different points within the strategy of procurement induced hardships to farmers after they introduced the produce for measuring on the DPCs.
The State authorities should provoke steps for clean and speedy procurement of paddy on the new value and guarantee secure storage, it added.
Other resolutions opposing the introduction of genetically modified paddy seeds in delta districts, initiation of steps for building of a dam throughout Cauvery river at Rasimanal, as agreed in precept by the current Tamil Nadu authorities, and declaring the preliminary works taken up by the Karnataka authorities with respect to Mekedatu dam challenge as unlawful have been additionally handed on the assembly.
Later, an illustration urging the Tamil Nadu authorities to obtain ‘kuruvai’ paddy on the new value from September 1 was organised by the Sangam on the Thanjavur District Collectorate campus.
