CITU transport staff 62-day-long wait-in protest ends as authorities concedes to their demand

The 62-day-long wait-in protest by the transport staff affiliated to the CITU ended on Saturday after Minister for Transport S. S. Sivasankar introduced within the Tamil Nadu Assembly that the federal government would settle for their calls for, together with the fast disbursal of retirement advantages.

Demanding the revival of outdated pension scheme and the disbursal of retirement advantages on the day of retirement, the CITU began its indefinite wait-in protest in entrance of the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation’s ‘Tamirabharani’ workshop in Vannarpet right here on August 18.

Speaking after the top of the agitation, CITU common secretary S. Jothi mentioned that over 3,500 transport staff who joined the service weren’t given pension whereas over 11,000 staff didn’t get their retirement advantages instantly after superannuation.
