Coimbatore Corporation allocates 20 crore for works put forward at ward-level meetings

The Coimbatore Corporation has allocated ₹20 crore to carry out infrastructure works based on grievances raised by citizens during ward-level meetings held from October 27 to 29. Each of the 100 wards will receive ₹20 lakh to implement three projects identified during the meetings.

A senior official said the selected works include streetlight repairs and drainage improvements, including construction of new drains, desilting, and manhole reconstruction. Ward committees shortlisted the projects based on urgency and feasibility. Major works that involve road laying and other infrastructure requiring higher costs have been noted and will be implemented after estimates are prepared at the city level.

The official added that the allocation covers the cost of three projects in each ward, with similar issues in an area combined under a single project, resulting in a total of 300 projects. Estimates for these works were approved at the recent council meeting, and execution is expected to begin shortly.

Corporation Commissioner M. Sivaguru Prabakaran said road restoration is the most common issue raised. He added that the Corporation has sought over ₹150 crore from the Director of Municipal Administration (DMA) for road works and is awaiting the release of funds. Some roads not included in the current ledger will be added for future restoration.
