TPCC President Mahesh Kumar Goud unfurled the party flag and, along with Ministers Ponnam Prabhakar, Azharuddin and Vivek, MLC Venkat and Planning Commission Vice-Chairman Chinna Reddy, paid floral tributes to the statues of Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
Addressing party leaders and workers, Mr. Goud said the Congress was the oldest political party in the world, born out of the determination and sacrifices of great leaders. He said the party’s contribution to India’s freedom struggle and post-Independence nation-building was unparalleled.
Recalling the leadership of Jawaharlal Nehru, the TPCC chief said the country’s transformation—from an era when even basic manufacturing was absent to becoming a space-faring nation—was possible due to the strong foundations laid by Nehru. He also highlighted the decisive leadership of Indira Gandhi, stating that Pakistan once feared her resolve, unlike the present situation.
Mr. Goud credited Indira Gandhi for nationalising banks to ensure economic resources reached the common people, Rajiv Gandhi for introducing modern technology to India, and P.V. Narasimha Rao for elevating the country through landmark economic reforms.
Taking a dig at the BJP-led Union government, he alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was diluting welfare schemes and removing Mahatma Gandhi’s name from them, which he termed as an affront to the nation’s legacy.
Several Congress leaders, party workers and supporters attended the celebrations, reaffirming their commitment to the party’s ideology and values.
