After nearly a decade of silence on the television front, Dragon Ball Super is officially returning with not one but two major anime projects confirmed during the franchise’s 40th anniversary celebration in Japan.

At the Dragon Ball Genkidamatsuri event on January 25, producers revealed that a brand-new Dragon Ball Super anime adapting the long-awaited Galactic Patrol storyline is now in production. The announcement was made in front of a live audience by Goku voice actor Masako Nozawa and executive producer Akio Iyoku, marking the first new Dragon Ball television project announced since the passing of creator Akira Toriyama in 2024.

The new series, titled Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol, will adapt the manga arc commonly known as the Galactic Patrol Prisoner saga. Set after the events of the anime’s Universe Survival arc, the story follows Goku and Vegeta as they join forces with the Galactic Patrol to confront a powerful new threat, Moro, a villain capable of draining entire planets of their energy. While the format has not yet been confirmed, the project is expected to take shape as a full television series, with industry speculation pointing toward a late 2027 debut.

In a separate announcement, Toei Animation also confirmed a television remake titled Dragon Ball Super: Beerus, scheduled for release in fall 2026. The project revisits the opening storyline of Dragon Ball Super, which was originally adapted from Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods. According to the official description, the remake will feature newly animated footage, restructured storytelling, and updated visuals designed to better align with the manga and modern production standards.

Masako Nozawa was joined onstage by Beerus voice actor Koichi Yamadera for the remake reveal, underscoring the importance of the project within the franchise’s future plans. The decision follows similar remake efforts by Toei on other properties and addresses long-standing criticism of the original series’ early animation quality.
