Exhibit on Healthcare heritage of Madras performed

On account of Madras Day, Public Health India in collaboration with Dakshina Chitra Museum, organised an exhibit on Friday, showcasing 90 photos of the town’s oldest healthcare establishments and the ladies pioneers who contributed to the sector.

Anitha Pottamkulam, Director (Culture), Dakshina Chitra, mentioned that the COVID-19 pandemic made individuals realise the significance of healthcare, by way of accessibility, affordability and the historical past of tertiary care within the metropolis. “We need this exhibition to develop and transfer to different locations too,” added Ms Pottamkulam.

Much of the curation was sourced from a chapter written by N. Subbulakshmy in ‘Madras Chennai: A 400 Year Record of the First City of Modern India’, edited by S. Muthiah.
