Police have seized gold ornaments price ₹20 lakh, ₹11,000 in money and two auto-rickshaws used within the fee of the crimes. The accused revealed that they’d function the autos close to railway stations and busy transit factors, goal solo passengers and steal their belongings mid-journey.
“The matter came to light on July 7 when a resident of Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh, lodged a complaint at the IP Estate Police Station alleging theft of his gold jewellery during an auto ride,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Nidhin Valsan in a press release stated.
The complainant stated he boarded an auto from the Nizamuddin Railway Station, and through the journey, three to 4 unknown folks had been picked up close to Yamuna Bridge at ITO. Upon reaching Anand Vihar Railway Station, he found that the gold ornaments saved in his bag had been lacking.
Based on the grievance, a case was registered, and additional investigation was taken up. A police staff scanned CCTV digital camera footage from the route and traced the auto used within the crime. The driver Wasim was later apprehended.
“During interrogation, Wasim disclosed the names of his associates, Mohsin, the alleged gang leader and a history-sheeter of Seelampur, Naseem, Ansar Ahmad, and Samina. All the accused were arrested and their involvement in the crime was established,” stated the DCP.
