GCC to widen slim roads in Chennai to ease site visitors congestion

Following complaints from residents and motorists about site visitors congestion, the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has deliberate to widen the carriageway of all of the 488 bus routes by eradicating encroachments, and with end-to-end paving and redesign of the roads.

Work on end-to-end paving of 4 roads has been accomplished in a number of congested areas. “The width of the carriageway of Gandhi Irwin Bridge Road, Binny Road, CSIR Road and Pallavan Salai has been elevated  by 60 cm due to end-to-end paving. Motorcycle riders could have extra space on such stretches. Work on bettering the carriageway of the 488 bus routes shall be carried out,” mentioned an official.

Officials mentioned the widening of the carriageway by one metre in sure stretches is predicted to ease site visitors congestion. Residents had complained about site visitors congestion in Manapakkam Main Road, M.G.Road and Dharmarajapuram.

Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises T.M.Anbarasan together with Chennai Corporation Commissioner J. Kumaragurubaran, officers of GCC and Highways inspected a congested Highways stretch from Manapakkam Riverview Avenue Main Road to Kundrathur. They have determined to take away streetlights that impede site visitors circulation on congested roads.

Ward 88 councillor G.V.Nagavalli mentioned residents have complained about site visitors congestion close to Padi Flyover and have demanded the widening of CTH Road and different stretches within the neighborhood. “The Highways Department has not widened the stretch,” she mentioned.

Ward 104 councillor T.V.Shemmozhi mentioned the residents have demanded a hyperlink highway alongside the Cooum connecting Pillayar Koil Street and Padi Kuppam Road to ease site visitors congestion within the neighborhood of V.R.Mall. 

Many proposals to accumulate land for highway widening have been shelved.
