Happy Patel Khatarnak Jasoos trailer: Vir Das stars as a failed spy in his wacky directorial debut

The trailer of Vir Das’ directorial debut, Happy Patel Khatarnak Jasoos was unveiled by the makers on Friday, December 19, 2025.

Written by Vir and Amogh Randive, the film has been directed by Vir along with Kavi Shastri. It also stars Mithila Palkar, Mona Singh, Sharib Hashmi, Srushti Tawade, Imran Khan, and Aamir Khan.

The trailer offers a brief glimpse into the over-the-top world of the film, where Vir plays Happy Patel, an amateur spy, who happens to have failed to enter MI7, seven times in his life. Unaware of his Indian origins, Happy is sent on a covert mission to India. He lands in Goa and navigates the space with his heavily anglicised accent, often becoming the butt of many jokes. Happy falls in love with the character of Mithila, who slaps him in a scene for touching her. Mona seems to play a dreaded kingpin, whom Happy confronts. The trailer also briefly shows Aamir in an eccentric, sketchy avatar.

Happy Patel Khatarnaak Jasoos is produced by Aamir, Aparna Purohit, Vir and Kavi. It will be released in theatres on January 16 next year.

The film marks the reunion of Vir, Aamir and Imran after the 2011 dark-comedy, Delhi Belly. Apart from his stand-up comedy shows, Vir has starred in films like Namastey London (2007), Love Aaj Kal (2009), Badmaash Company (2010) and Mastizaade (2016). His last appearance as an actor was in the Ananya Panday show, Call Me Bae (2024).
