IndiGo’s Bangkok-Mumbai flight suffers tail strike

An IndiGo plane working its Bangkok-Mumbai flight suffered a tail strike whereas making an attempt to land on the airport in Mumbai on Saturday (August 16,2025).

Both the pilots of the Airbus A321neo have been derostered pending investigation, they stated.

“On August 16, an IndiGo Airbus A321 aircraft tail touched the runway while executing a low-altitude go-around due to unfavourable weather conditions in Mumbai,” IndiGo spokesperson stated in an announcement.

The airline flight 6E 1060 departed from Bangkok at 12.12 a.m. (native time) in opposition to its scheduled departure time of 11.40 pm (native time) and at last landed on the Mumbai airport at 3.04 a.m. in opposition to its scheduled arrival time of two.50 a.m., as per flight monitoring web site flightradar24.com.

“Thereafter the aircraft carried out another approach and landed safely,” the airline stated.

“We will be undertaking an investigation on this incident,” a senior Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) official informed PTI.

Heavy downpour pummeled Mumbai and its suburbs, with some elements recording greater than 200 mm rainfall within the wee hours of Saturday (August 16, 2025), inundating low-lying areas and affecting the transport companies together with motion of native trains and flights.

Incessant rain continued to lash elements of the town within the morning with occasional heavy spells.

The downpour started round 1 a.m. and continued into the early hours of the day, inflicting waterlogging in low-lying areas of the western and japanese suburbs.

According to the IMD, a number of elements of Mumbai recorded greater than 200 mm of rainfall between 8.30 a.m. on Friday and 5.30 am on Saturday.

Following the usual protocol, the plane will undergo obligatory checks/ repairs and regulatory clearance earlier than resuming operations, IndiGo stated within the assertion.

“We are making all efforts to minimise any subsequent impact on our operations due to this incident,” the IndiGo spokesperson added within the assertion.
