Mayor instructs officers to desilt streams in Salem

Salem Corporation Mayor A. Ramachandran instructed the officers to desilt the streams and take away the mud gathered on the sewage channels and the crops grown there, on Friday.

For the previous one week, rain has been lashing numerous components of Salem district. Rainwater from Yercaud hills reaches by numerous lakes and streams in Salem Corporation and enters Thirumanimutharu River. Due to steady rain, rainwater flows into the streams and lakes are crammed.

The councillors urged the civic physique to desilt the channels and streams within the Corporation restrict to keep away from the stream of sewage and rainwater on the roads.

On Friday, Mayor Ramachandran inspected sewage channels in ward 9 of the Ammapet zone. The Mayor instructed the officers to take away the mud gathered within the sewage channels and likewise the crops grown over the channels for the free stream of sewage water. Later, he inspected the Kannimar and Ramanathapuram streams in ward 37 and instructed officers to take away the crops grown and guarantee rainwater stream with none hindrance.

The Mayor mentioned that the Northeast monsoon rain has began, and directions have been given to officers in 4 zones of the Corporation to desilt the sewage channels and to finish the works as early as doable to make sure no rainwater stagnation.

During the Mayor’s inspection, officers from Ammapet Zone and councillors had been current.
