Stating that “important political parties” were in talks with the Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK), its leader T.T.V. Dhinakaran said that only the AMMK would decide which party to forge an alliance with.

He dismissed as “rumours” reports in a section of the media that the principal Opposition party, the AIADMK, had agreed to allocate six seats to the AMMK for the upcoming State Assembly election.

“It is not important for us that others accept us. What is important is whom we are ready to accept,” he told reporters here on Wednesday (December 24, 2025).

The AMMK has a strong organisational set-up in 200 of the 234 Assembly constituencies in the State, and its vote share has increased in many seats. “The AMMK is a decisive force in many districts for an assured victory in the election,” he said.

Dhinakaran slams media

He flayed the media for “falling prey to certain persons” and spreading rumours. “The media cannot decide on our behalf on the alliance issue,” he said.

Important political parties were approaching the AMMK and inviting it to join their alliances, he said. Similarly, parties seeking to form alliances were also holding talks with the AMMK, he said, hinting at actor Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).

“Our past experience speaks for us: no one can influence me or the AMMK. We will take a decision that will be good for the party and the welfare of Tamil Nadu,” he said.

‘AMMK will contest from Andipatti’

Mr. Dhinakaran said that elections were not just three-month-long celebrations. “The AMMK should survive beyond the Assembly election, irrespective of its outcome, to further our party’s ideology.”

The AMMK fought the previous Assembly election to ensure that certain parties did not come to power. “However, our party could not win any seats. This time, our candidates will definitely enter the Assembly. Irrespective of any alliance, the AMMK will contest from the Andipatti Assembly constituency,” he said.
