In the presence of Mayor G. Ramakrishnan, Palayamkottai MLA M. Abdul Wahab and Deputy Mayor Okay. R. Raju, the Collector launched within the river catla (Major South Asian Carp), rohu (Labeo rohita) and kendai (carp) fingerlings, all equipped by the Department of Fisheries within the perennial river close to Kurukkuthurai Murugan Temple close to the District Collectorate.
“We’d set the goal of releasing over 2 lakh native breed fingerlings within the Thamirabarani earlier than the northeast monsoon. After stocking 1 lakh fingerlings within the river at Kodaganallur throughout final week, we’ve launched within the river 30,000 catla, 30,000 rohu and 40,000 kendai fingerlings equipped by the Fisheries Department seed manufacturing depot at Manimuthar dam on Saturday. This step will additional enrich the Thamirabarani river’s wholesome ecosystem moreover enhancing the livelihood of inland fishermen,” Dr. Sukumar mentioned.
