Over a lakh native breed fingerlings launched in Thamirabarani

District Collector R. Sukumar on Saturday launched over a lakh native breed fingerlings in Thamirabarani River that will assure the livelihood of some thousand inland fishermen moreover quenching the thirst of tens of millions of individuals from 4 southern districts.

In the presence of Mayor G. Ramakrishnan, Palayamkottai MLA M. Abdul Wahab and Deputy Mayor Okay. R. Raju, the Collector launched within the river catla (Major South Asian Carp), rohu (Labeo rohita) and kendai (carp) fingerlings, all equipped by the Department of Fisheries within the perennial river close to Kurukkuthurai Murugan Temple close to the District Collectorate.

“We’d set the goal of releasing over 2 lakh native breed fingerlings within the Thamirabarani earlier than the northeast monsoon.
